The IMDG core team of eight industry veterans are highly knowledgeable and insightful about the mining and minerals processing industry in Southern Africa. They are also accomplished in project development. As a multidisciplinary team they are unlikely to be surpassed at judging whether or not project opportunities are worth pursuing.
Portfolio Management
This work comprises the following activities
- identifying project opportunities
- screening project opportunities for good ones
- selecting good project opportunities for engaging with the rights owners in order to interactively develop the business case
- evaluating the business case in order to determine if an opportunity qualifies for funding a project development venture
- prioritising and then selecting the next project opportunity from those already qualified for concluding a Project Development Agreement (PDA) with the rights owner and with an investor, and only then commencing with the development. (When prioritising and then selecting the next, consideration must be given to the professional resources that are available at that time, to the mix of projects already under development, and to the demand/preferences of would-be owners); and
- making the critical go-no-go decisions at the stage-gate reviews that are held at the conclusion of each of the successive study phases. Go-no-go decisions may also be required midway during a study.
Leading project development studies
The core team will select diverse teams of specialised professionals and lead them in conducting the successive studies up to completed BFSs. The core team will also direct the exploration and lab work required in support of the studies.
EXCO
All the core team members are also permanent members of the IMDG EXCO with clearly defined roles in the management of IMDG’s operations
